Kyber53 – Geek Voices of Color
(Joe was on vacation this week, so Michael did his best not to muck things up, with varying levels of success.)
The wonderful thing about geek culture is that at its heart it is a culture of inclusivity. A certain film, comic, character, whatever, speaks to you in a way that nothing has before, and we all come together under that banner of inclusivity.
Raise that freak flag high, we all get it.
Maybe you’re that Chicano kid dressed all in black listening to Depeche Mode with an issue of THE UNCANNY X-MEN in your hands, or maybe you’re that skinny Black kid connecting with Peter Parker’s need to pay the rent, or maybe you’re that white kid with the glasses, a little shorter than everyone else, from a town that everyone thinks is past its heyday, dazzled by all that the Force has to offer. After all, mutant rights are civil rights, are black rights, are LGBTQ+ rights, aren’t they?
So tonight we’ve changed things up just a little bit; tonight is just a discussion between two geeks of color, two friends, talking about what they identify with in geek culture.
Pull up a chair, have a listen, then leave a comment. All are included.
Welcome back to the Kybercast!
